Help · Custom domain

Use your club's own domain

Show your Sportio site on your own web address — for example yourclub.no — with free HTTPS. It takes a few minutes, and you do not need to move the domain.

1 · Add the domain

In Sportio, go to Settings → Domain and enter the address the way visitors should use it – we recommend www.yourclub.no. You must be the club owner or an administrator.

2 · Copy the DNS records

Sportio shows the exact records for your particular domain, with a copy button on each. The values can differ from club to club – always copy them from Sportio.

3 · Paste them at your provider

Log in where you bought the domain (Domeneshop, one.com, GoDaddy …) and add the records. Delete any old A or CNAME records for the same name first.

4 · Verify – done

Click ‘Check now’, or just wait: Sportio also checks automatically in the background. Once DNS and the HTTPS certificate are in place, the site is live on your address.

The DNS records

What you add at your provider

TypeName / HostValueWhat it does
TXT_sportio-verify.wwwsportio-verify=… (your unique code)Confirms that the club owns the domain. The name follows the address you entered: for yourclub.no it becomes _sportio-verify
CNAMEwwwthe value Sportio shows (…vercel-dns…)Points www.yourclub.no to Sportio
A@ (the root domain)the IP address Sportio shows (usually 76.76.21.21)Points yourclub.no to Sportio – it sends visitors on to the www address

Important: the exact values – including your unique TXT code – are shown in Sportio when you add the domain. Always copy them from there. Many providers add the domain name themselves: then enter only the part in front (for example ‘www’ or ‘_sportio-verify.www’). Choose ‘DNS only’ (not proxy) if the provider asks.

Questions about custom domains

DNS changes usually take effect within a few minutes, but can take up to a day at some providers. Sportio checks automatically in the background – every 15 minutes for the first two days – and connects the domain as soon as the records are in place. You get a notification in Sportio when the domain is connected.
Yes. We issue a free SSL certificate automatically as soon as DNS points to Sportio. If the domain has a CAA record, it must allow letsencrypt.org.
No. The domain stays with your provider – you only add a few DNS records. Email on the domain (MX records) is not affected.
Yes. Enter one of the addresses in Sportio (we recommend www). Sportio automatically connects the other form too and sends visitors on, as long as both DNS records (A for the root domain and CNAME for www) are in place.
It keeps working. Once the domain is active, you can choose ‘Make primary address’ – visitors to clubname.sportio.no are then sent on to your own domain.
Then you use a free Sportio address straight away: clubname.sportio.no. You can connect your own domain at any time later – nothing is lost.
No – use ‘DNS only’ (grey cloud) for these records. With the proxy on, Sportio cannot issue the certificate, and the domain never becomes active.
A domain that is not confirmed with the TXT record within 30 days is released automatically, so nobody can hold on to an address they do not own. You can add it again at any time.
